Team Depot Builds Veterans Pavilion

ServiceSource Warrior Bridge has been the beneficiary of outstanding volunteerism. Thanks to The Home Depot Foundation and Team Depot, and corporate and community volunteers from GE Aviation, Duke Energy, Shorecrest Academy, and MacDill Air Force Base, we now have a beautiful outdoor site where we can connect with and pay tribute to service members and their families. Anchored by 26 foot-square Pavilion, the Veterans Tribute Garden is a near-acre of striking bromeliads, accent palms, and succulents, with 400 feet of footpaths, berms, and benches that can accommodate picnics, fundraisers, and outings benefiting veterans.

Veterans Served Tops 1,675

We are proud to report that the Abilities Guild Veterans Mall--a storeroom of kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom furnishings and job-interview clothes given for free to injured veterans referred from the Bill Young and James Haley VA Hospitals transitioning from homelessness to apartment life--recently served its 1,675th veteran. Imagine the sense of dignity and hope that having an apartment and basic home necessities engender. Many thanks to Guild volunteers and Mall founder Virginia Meyer, who work diligently to ensure that veterans have the durables they need to get life in their apartments off to a positive start.

Guild's Volunteer Hours Valued at $417,180

The Abilities Guild faithful amassed an astounding 18,894 volunteer hours this past year. According to the Independent Sector, the value of volunteer time in Florida was calculated at $22.08 per hour in 2016. This equates to an in-kind donation of $417,180--a sizeable increase over the previous year--most of which is attributable to the Guild's focus on gifting household essentials for free to formerly homeless veterans. We applaud this marvelous achievement and proudly proclaim the Guild's support to donors and funders. Kudos to Guild  officers, chairs, and members for a phenomenal contribution.
